About Evidence Formation Standard - (EFS)
Understanding Evidence Formation Standard (EFS™)
What Is Evidence Formation Standard?
Evidence Formation Standard (EFS™) is the second Parent Standard of ADIT® —Continuous Audit & Evidence Governance Architecture™. It governs how validated
audit observations become structured, trustworthy, attributable, and
governable evidence before entering the evidence lifecycle.
EFS recognizes that an audit observation does not automatically constitute
evidence. Before information can support audit conclusions, governance
decisions, accountability, or independent verification, it must first be
formed into governed evidence under standardized governance conditions.
Why EFS
Exists
Operational systems continuously generate observations, events, transactions, decisions, interactions, and state changes. Although these observations may
accurately describe operational reality, they are not automatically suitable
for audit, governance, or accountability.
Without standardized evidence formation, evidence may become incomplete,
inconsistent, unreliable, or impossible to verify independently.
EFS exists to ensure that every governed audit observation is transformed into
trustworthy evidence using a consistent, transparent, and governable
methodology.
Use Case 1 — Autonomous AI Governance
ScenarioAn autonomous AI platform generates validated audit observations while making
high-value operational decisions.
Application
EFS governs how validated observations are transformed into structured
evidence containing the required operational information, attribution,
timestamps, governance metadata, and supporting relationships before entering
the governed evidence lifecycle.
Result
Every audit observation becomes trustworthy, governable evidence suitable for
audit, accountability, operational reconstruction, and independent
verification.
Use Case 2 — Financial Services
ScenarioA digital payment platform continuously records validated observations for
financial transactions processed across multiple systems.
Application
EFS governs how those observations are consistently transformed into
standardized evidence supporting regulatory oversight, internal audit, fraud
investigation, and long-term operational accountability.
Result
Financial evidence remains complete, trustworthy, governable, and suitable for
independent audit throughout its operational lifecycle.
